Our Story
The Beginnings
Hofbräuhaus of America Franchise is based on one of the oldest and most famous beer cultures in the world! The Hofbräuhaus in Munich and Hofbräu München Brewery were founded in 1589, when the people of Bavaria called for better beer and Duke William decided to make the liquid gold available to everybody.
From this day on, the brewery evolved with the demand and brewing knowledge, moved to bigger locations over time, and made the “Hofbräuhaus am Platzl” to what it is today – the most famous beer hall in the world and our flagship!
German “Gemütlichkeit”, HB beer brewed after the Purity Law, extraordinary German cuisine and lively entertainment are the core values of the Hofbräuhaus Franchise brand, all based on the authenticity of the original in Munich!
The Hofbräu Beer, to be more precise the HB Oktoberfestbier, was first introduced to the U.S. at the Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth, Michigan, in 1997. Fred Schumacher, local businessman and later the first president of “Hofbräuhaus of America” took care of the import arrangements.
Six years later, in 2003, it was time for the first Hofbräuhaus Experience in the United States. The Hofbräuhaus Newport was born, followed by Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas in 2004 opened by today’s president Stefan Gastager and his business partners. With rapid expansion in import and franchises, Hofbräuhaus of America LLC was established in 2005, and it all grew from there.
